We want to thank the independent filmmaker Rosie Barnes for her new 13-minute profile on Leilac. It’s called “Inside the Future of Cement: Leilac’s Low Emission Kilns,” and it’s a part of her YouTube series “Engineering with Rosie.” Rosie, a self-described techno-optimist, is focused on renewable energy engineering and other technologies that are a part of the clean energy transition.
Rosie describes our decarbonisation technology as “a brand-new take on some of the most important and most emissions-intensive industrial processes that modern society relies on.” She explains that Leilac has “reimagined the humble kiln or furnace that has been powering these critical processes for hundreds and in some cases thousands of years, to get rid of those hard to abate process emissions.”

Rosie has a PhD in mechanical engineering and composite materials structural design and analysis, along with 18 years of experience working as a professional engineer developing new energy technologies. She is motivated by a desire to work in roles and industries that are innovative, and that have a positive impact on the world. Outside of the renewable energy industry my professional interests include electric vehicles, energy storage, smart grids and any kind of technology that enables the transition to a clean energy future and sustainable environment.
Rosie also loves to communicate about engineering and climate change solutions to a broad audience, particularly with young people. She wants to encourage the next generation of engineers, especially girls and women to enter this exciting field which holds so much potential to solve the world’s biggest problems.
